History
Lena Cazeaux and Kristine Wolfe met in 2004, while working in the child welfare sector in Colorado. Lena focused on building foundation and corporate grant programs and Kristine specialized in donor and financial databases as well as grants. They found that their individual talents complemented each other’s back then and even more now.
Lena has been consulting with her own company, Terrapin Resource Development for the past 20 years. Kristine worked as a development director for a nonprofit school. While reconnecting in late 2017, they discovered that they both had a passion for helping nonprofits succeed with resource development in many different areas while also realizing that they could not be the experts at everything a nonprofit might need assistance with. This sparked the idea of forming their own collective of experts to bring the expertise for whatever a client needed at the moment.
Sometimes it makes sense to contract out certain services instead of hiring a staff person. The fund development landscape was changing and this made them eager to cultivate their own business, one that would effectively intersect their expertise with their respective interests. They believe that what makes a creative organization thrive is the passion that drives it. Choosing to specialize in a field means that you are completely devoted to it; that you will protect it as if it were your own. That is the energy that sets the Development Collective apart.
